Insights

The most interesting outcome was a map that explores an ethnic approach to design pedagogy centered on the concept of "the reflective student" as an active agent within the system.

Tool: Whiteboard

Core themes:

Gender & Diversity Awareness — The framework emphasizes observing and promoting different gender forms, women in design, unisex design, migration, and multicultural design styles—all approached undogmatically and non-universally.

Contextual Design Practice — Students are expected to properly cite and respect culture, religion, and nationality, curate design examples thoughtfully, and understand design within its specific context.

Key Question — What role does the reflective student play, and how do they become an active participant in this system? The map asks for an "ideal day in the life of the enlightened student" to clarify this vision.

References & Contacts — The map references events like the Beyond Change Conference (Basel 2018), Gender Gap Symposium (Ravensburg 2019), and a Diversity Seminar by Prof. Dr. Jörg Wiesel. Dr. Sarah Owens at ZHdK is noted as a potential contact with overlapping interests. The "Migrant" magazine is mentioned as an example of opening a discourse medium.

Context

Finding a ground and starting to work on the topic through whiteboarding. Mapping out first ideas, interests, different topics of the design discourse, noting down random thoughts, building first clusters.
